Defragment your disk drive easily in Windows. It resorts your files on the disk drive. This will speed up your computer considerably. It will also reorder the most used programs so they will run faster and more efficient for you.
In Windows 98 and in Windows Me here's how to Defragment your disk drive:
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Programs
3. Click on Accessories
4. Click on System Tools
5. Click on Disk Defragmenter and follow the directions in the Disk Defragmenter pop up menu. (make sure to go to Settings in the pop up menu to make sure "Rearrange program files so my programs start faster" box is checked.)
Do not work on your computer while you are defragmenting because it will slow the process down. It will take some time to defrag your drive, but once it is done, you will have a more efficient running machine!
Make sure in the Windows Disk Defragmenter Settings menu, you check the box that says "Rearrange program files so my programs start faster".
In Windows XP Pro:
1. Click on Start
2. Click on All Programs
3. Choose Accessories
4. Choose System Tools
5. Click on Disk Defragmentor
Once the program has started you will need to click on the Defragment button. Depending on the condition of your hard drive the time it takes could be several hours.
