Used Laptops Newsletter #103
In this edition of the used laptop newsletter. I want to address the matter of price and how used laptops can be compared to new laptops being sold in the stores today. However before we can talk about comparison we need to talk about some issues regarding the types of laptops being sold in the stores. Now we have all done searches in www.Google.com on keyword phrases like -- laptops under $200 or laptops under $300 or for that matter any price selection. So how is it that a used laptop can cost upwards to $1000 and every price under that even a laptop for $99.99. When you can easily go down to your local retail store and pick up a laptop for under $500. This is what confuses a lot of people. I will not pretend that I can explain in full what the difference is between new and used. After all some people have to purchase new equipment. Even when they purchase used they usually can not keep it for long before they find mysterious problems with the laptop. So if you are on those that need new stuff. Then by all means stop reading here and go find that cool new laptop. There are people, and I am one of them, that just can not bring themselves to purchase a new anything. You purchase a new car and drive it off the lot the price goes down 50%. It is a depreciating asset. Which means that you are simply buying a thing -- not an investment. Same goes for laptops. Its real cool for about 2 weeks when you show off your brand new laptop but then guess what -- it is suddenly obsolete and no longer new and coolest. The difference between what we sell in the used market and what you can purchase brand new is that companies like Bob Johnson's Computer stuff sells off lease corporate laptops. These laptops were made to last for at least the length of the lease term which is typically 3 years. So these laptops were better made that laptops that are sold in the retail stores. They usually only have a 1 year warranty if that long. So you can expect the laptop to last about 1 year. Time and time again I repair what I call 'retail line' laptops like the Dell Inspiron and HP pavilion laptops. Very low quality laptops. Some nice corporate machines like the IBM Thinkpad T series or the HP business machine to name a few are high quality units that you can expect to last and if they do break down there are usually plenty of spare parts and very inexpensive prices. Plus when you purchase your used laptop from us we cover it with our Lifetime warranty.
